military-vehicle

Whether you are a member of the United States military or a visitor it is no different. If you receive a traffic ticket while on base, the consequences may differ than if you were given a ticket on public property.

Because military bases are not public property state laws differ. This may or may not cause your traffic ticket to appear on your state issued driver’s license.

On a military base  you are able to receive two types of tickets:

1) United States District Court Violation (DD 1805)- the same type of ticket you would receive from a public police officer on public property. This is also given to anyone driving a non-goverment vehicle on base.

2) Armed Forces Traffic Ticket (DD 1408) - a ticket given to a person driving a government vehicle, a dependent of an active member, or a person driving a non-goverment vehicle while on active duty.

It’s important to remember to drive safely, even while on a military base. Traffic tickets issued on base are to be taken seriously. Even though these tickets may or may not affect your public license, it is important to drive safely to keep other people safe.
